The Piloto project to mitigate emissions from EPM

Public companies in Medellín traditionally put up Christmas lights in December, in different areas of the city, with special emphasis in the Paseo del Río, la Avenida La Playa, the main parks and avenues of the city.

In 2008, EPM declared its interest in marking its responsibility as a social responsible industry and mitigate the carbon emissions generated by activities such as:

·         The energy consumption of lighting systems;

·         The energy consumption of retailers;

·         The transport and tools for the lighting systems; and

·         The visitor transports to the attractions.

The volume of carbon emissions from Paseo del Río during the Christmas season was calculated by EPM and PriceWaterhouseCoopers to 893 tons of CO2.
